Quandary Peak, West Ridge
Ike invited us to head up Quandary with him and Mike for the
14ers Winter Welcomer so Laura and I headed to the cabin Friday night after
work. Waking up early, we hit the trailhead in the dark met up with the
guys. Off we went into the darkness,
easily navigating the road and path to the west ridge since we had been there
several times before. We decided to head up Fletcher as an add on and then on
over to Quandary itself. The conditions
were good, with some snow and light wind.
We made good time and reached the summit around 11am. We all shared a
warm rum tea I had made the night before and shared a few laughs at the summit
before heading down the standard route. At the bottom, Laura suckered a couple
in a prius into taking us up the road to the upper trailhead. They were out of towners and wanted to know
all about our hiking adventures. We headed back to the cabin for dinner and a
few beers and relaxed and BS’d into the night.
Great way to spend the weekend with great friends and a beautiful winter
summit.
