Boulder Skyline

October 22, 2022

It's been years since Isaac and I Have gotten out together on an adventure with just the two of us. Since I was dropping Laura and Hazel off at the airport in Denver, I asked Isaac if he would like to join me on a traverse of the Boulder skyline. It includes five peaks. We met in Boulder at 7:30 AM and headed towards the South Mesa Trailhead near El Dorado Canyon. Within 10 minutes I realized that I had left my sunglasses in my car so we turned around and started the whole thing over sometime around 8 AM. After reaching the South Mesa trailhead and finding a parking spot we were quickly moving. We made steady time up to South Boulder Peak but didn't do any running just yet. From there we continued on to Bear peak running the down hills and scrambling quickly up the rocks to the summit. Between Bear Peak and Green Mountain is a long downhill run. Several miles at least. We ran almost all of it and made great time until we started ascending up Green Mountain. It was a casual hike to the summit and with just a short rest we are again off and running down. Next was Flagstaff Mountain, which is really just a boulder and a flat area, so we climbed up the boulder stood on top and then ran all the way down for several more miles until we pass the parking lot that we had originally started at at 8 AM We continued past that parking lot and went up Mount Sanitas. Spending only a few minutes on top of Mount Santis we again ran down and were back at the car quickly. It took us almost exactly 6 hours and was a fantastic day out. I enjoyed moving fast over varied terrain and hanging out with my friend in the mountains again. Total time was 5 hours 59 minutes and distance was 18.4 miles with 6,400' of elevation gain.
