North Wash Canyons - Blarney, Shillelagh, Left fork Leprechaun, Morocco, Hogwarts, Death canyon

Utah Canyoneering

We ordered Hazel a body harness last week and invited our friends Isaac and Nicole as well as their 7 and 12 year old daughters to join us for a family weekend of canyoneering in Utah. Laura and I arrived a day early and took Hazel through Blarney canyon which included her first rappel. We were a bit nervous about rappelling with her but quickly learned that she would calm down as soon as we went onto rappel. She would just lean into us and almost fall asleep, not being nervous at all.

We finished with enough time to add on Shillelagh canyon which included a 100' foot rappel into a beautiful canyon.

That night we met Isaac and Nicole in town and ate dinner at the only food place around. We'd end up eating there every night which turned out okay because they have really good milkshakes! Saturday we all headed back to north wash and completed the left fork of Leprechaun canyon as well as Morocco.

Sunday we had in my opinion the best canyon, Hogwarts canyon. While it's not a slot canyon, nor is it long, it is very impressive. I will go back here again. We had lunch and when Isaac, Nicole and the kids headed home, we headed over to Death canyon for a nice finish to the day.

Monday morning we were headed home. We stopped at Goblin Valley State Park and visited Goblins Lair. Finding the rappel into the cave was challenging but when we found it, both the free hanging rappel and the "Lair" were very impressive. I would recommend this as well - if you can find it!
