Playa Del Carmen Mexico

November 16-23, 2023

Family vacation to Mexico with Laura, Hazel, Mom (Granny) and me.

We stayed at Catalonia Riveria Maya and enjoyed the resort.

We all spent the week relaxing, eating and exploring in Mexico. Hazel played in the sand every day and had a blast building sandcastles and playing on the beach. She swam in the resort pools for hours at a time and is getting really good at swimming!

Laura and I went diving in playa at two different dive sites - Palacio and Cuevitas. We also took everyone over to Cozumel by ferry for the day and went diving at Palancar Gardens and did an awesome drift dive at La Francesca.

The four of us did a daytrip to Tulum and visited the ancient Mayan city ruins, went swimming in Cenote Caracol and snorkeled at Akumal Beach, seeing turtles for Granny's first snorkeling trip ever.

Hazel loves the beach

One section of the beach had rocks that made fun pools to play in.

Neat artwork in Tulum

Tulum

Tulum is on some cliffs above the ocean. There were amazing views looking out across the clear water.

There were lots of iguanas hanging out on the beach and cliffs at Tulum

Fun exploring the cenotes.

We accessed the cenote through a hole in the ground with a set of steps that went straight down.

Going down into the cenote.

Getting ready to swim. The water in the cenote was pretty cold.

We were able to swim through several chambers and explore the cave.

Dad and Hazel were excited for her first snorkel in the ocean.

We saw several moray eels, like these two.

We even saw this nurse shark.

Lots of colorful fish.

We went kayaking at the resort.

We built lots off sandcastles.

Hazel and Granny

Hazel was intrigued by the cereques.  Apparently they are endemic to this part of Mexico.

Hazel and Granny had so much fun on the beach.

Hazel is always a helper.
