Laura's Birthday Extravaganza
December 14-16, 2018

Relaxing at dinner with Nick and Brandi we somehow always plan a trip when we get together. This time it was a quick weekend for Laura's 40th birthday. We decided on Nashville since none of us but Brandi had been there before. So off we go for our 48 hour birthday extravaganza! Driving to DIA and arriving in Nashville Friday evening, we had dinner with Brandi's sister and a few friends and  headed over to a place called the Tin Roof for some live music before retiring for the evening at Justin and Carolyn's home on 6 acres just outside of Nashville.

It was great waking the next morning looking out over the area and toward some rocks described by our friend as cliffs that should be climbed! We riled up his 115 pound rodesian ridgeback dog named Roger and had a cup of coffee before meeting for brunch downtown. The day was early so on to Broadway and Music Row we went.
We visited multiple bars along the strip, each with excellent live music, but found ourselves spending the most time at Kid Rock's bar jamming to our favorite live band of the trip.

That evening we went to a songwriters showcase with three writers playing their original songs. It was excellent and unique to hear the stories behind the music and to hear it performed in such a raw format. Ending the day, we once again headed for more live music and ended the night on Broadway. Before heading out of town, we took a tour of the Ryman Auditorium which has been beautifully restored and headed over to Opryland to view the Christmas decorations in the huge hotel and resort. 48 hours isn't enough to see it all, but was great to get away and celebrate Laura's birthday with our friends Nick and Brandi!  We would also like to thank Stephani, Justin and Carolyn for hosting us and showing us around.
